A Very Belated Welcome to Baby James Lawrence

Ok. So, I haven't updated the blog in QUITE some time.  And I have received subtle and not-so-subtle hints that certain loved ones far away would like an update!  I will work on uploading some recent pictures and events!

I feel it is only fair to give James a dedicated post, as I never posted pics here when our sweet new little guy was first born.  As you can imagine, life has been a bit crazy around here.  The good kind of crazy...  But crazy.

James was born 11/27/15 - almost a whole month earlier than his due date!  He was 6 pounds, 10 ounces.  He had a little stay in the NICU while his lungs strengthened and healed, and then we brought him home in time for Christmas.  His first name, James, is Ryan's dad's name (and Ryan's middle name.)  His middle name, Lawrence, was my Grandpa's name.  He has two awesome patron saints and namesakes!  He is now almost 6 months, is rolling, babbling, laughing, and starting to eat solid foods.  We are totally in love with him, obviously.

James has some very adoring big brothers.  Leah knows what she's doing as a big sister and reads him stories and sings him songs.  Wyatt is always quick to snuggle up to him and talk to him and play.  And Asher is learning the difference between playing with a baby and wrestling crocodiles.  :)  Don't worry...he has come a long way.  The other night I was helping someone and had to put James down.  He did NOT like it.  As I was rushing back to pick him up, I saw Asher climb into the crib with James and say, "I got you James.  I got you.  Want toy?"  (He says "Jayminz" for James.) Then he lay down next to him and shook a rattle for him and talked to him.  I love having this little pack of small ones.  They are just the best.

Oh, and Lucy.  Lucy is still a good dog and takes good care of her pups.

These three are going to have lots of fun together! (And probably cause a decent amount of trouble! )

Close Encounters of the Pregnant Kind

I have found that something about a pregnant lady makes people say things that they wouldn't normally say. And, then of course, there is also a sudden decrease in personal space awareness. I am almost not surprised anymore when a stranger puts her hand on my belly for a prolonged amount of time in a public restroom while she tells me horror stories about delivering the 15 th of her 17 children. Here are a few of my favorite encounters: 1. An elderly man came over to me at the grocery store in the produce section looking very stern and asked me if I was trying to steal a watermelon. (He then broke into a semi-toothless grin.) 2. A kindergartner came running up to me while I was on recess duty, put her hand on my tummy and said, "Mrs. Dainty! I just saw your belly MOVING! Is that your baby? Is she having recess, too?" 3. Lucy (our dog) gave me several annoyed glances as she tried to snuggle up to me while we were watching TV and kept getting nudged in the face by t...

Snow and Sesame Street

We woke up to sooooo much snow! The kind where you can't get the back door open and you have to shovel your way to the garage to get to the snowblower. Leah and Lucy were both pretty amazed - the snow is deep enough to swallow them both up! We played in the snow while Ryan, bless his heart, began excavating our house. Leah helped shovel us out for a while. What a trooper! Another recent fun event was going to see "Sesame Street Live" on New Year's Eve. We saw Elmo, Grover, the Count, and all of Leah's favorites. The music was pretty awesome - my favorite was a medley of "I love trash" and "We're moving trash," which is a song about decomposition sung by an R&B Beetle. Very fun - Leah was mesmerized.
